Red Gesha Microlot - Cusco, Peru (200g)

Red Gesha

A rare, competition-grade Red Gesha from the high slopes of the Andes in Cusco, Peru. Grown by Dwight Aguilar Masias, a two-time Peru Cup of Excellence first-place winner (2018 and 2021), at Finca Nueva Alianza in Santa Teresa, La Convencion, at 1,900 masl.

Floral and expressive: jasmine, lychee, and honeydew, with stone fruit, bright citrus, and lingering honey.

Meticulously washed: hand-picked at peak ripeness, rested in cherry for 24 hours, floated to remove defects, de-pulped, dry-fermented for 36 hours, then dried on raised beds for around 20 days until the beans reach roughly 10% moisture.

About the variety: Gesha traces back to the coffee forests of Ethiopia in the 1930s, travelled through research stations in Tanzania and Central America, and rose to fame in 2005 when a Panama lot shattered world auction records. It has been a favourite of competition roasters and brewers ever since.

Meticulously washed

From cherry to 10% moisture

01

Hand-picked

Cherries are picked at peak ripeness, selecting only the fully yellow fruit.

02

24 h rest

The cherries rest for 24 hours before floating removes any defects and underripes.

03

De-pulped

The fruit is removed mechanically, leaving the mucilage-covered parchment.

04

36 h dry ferment

A controlled 36-hour dry fermentation develops clarity and sweetness.

05

20 days drying

Dried slowly on raised beds for around 20 days until the beans stabilise at roughly 10% moisture.
